Hostgator has been a good host for me. I probably would not have used hostgator if I didnt already have my domain name purchased because $15.00 is high for a domain name especially when most hosts give you it for free. Use a different host if you don't own the domain yet.

Hostgator disappointed me when their servers appeared to have been hacked and the support was real slow in letting users know what was going on. /that makes me wonder if I should renew when my term ends. I may go elsewhere.

Normally my hosting reviews cover my recent experiences and news concerning Hostgator but a recent review submission has given an example of excellent service.
The visitor wrote about an experience which is also been summarized in the reviews, but they had started to play with an AJAX script. Not the cleaning agent, but AJAX stands for Ansychronous Javascript Active X which is gaining in popularity to provide dyamic interaction for websites.
Back to the point here, the user had hit the wall on there knowledge and ability to decipher the unfamiliar code and get the script working to the point where they figured a different host with different server settings would be required to get it working.
After sending off a support ticket they reported getting a response in less than two hours and began an email support conversation lasting a few messages back and forth over the day as the user was able to check in. Once the problem was explained, Hostgator admins adjusted the htaccess file for them and just like that the script was up and working.
Kudos to Hostgator for helping this person as other staffers and I have all had experiences with stubborn and less than friendly IT folks who refuse to adjust anything on their end and blame the problem on your faulty code.
